THE STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE | PROSEPERINA - WHEN TIME STOOD STILL

Surfaces resistant to the passage of time, polished and semi-polished finishes, refined pure shades, honed by light, veins and ruffles, marble is the metamorphic rock the ancient Greeks dubbed after marmaírō which means to gleam, to flash and sparkle. A few days ago my team and I headed to Tuscany for a fashion shoot inside a marble carving workshop in Carrara.

A trifold assignment for me as Art Director, Producer and Photographer, a whirlwind journey of the soul in a nostalgic mix of 90s inspired, pre-fall styles, enfolded by the engaging drama, dynamism, tension, texture, and naturalism of marble artworks.

The swirling, dynamic composition of Bernini's Proserpina played out its fantasies in my mind, by means of emotive, luxuriously curling locks of hair on the meticulously veined carvings of the master sculptor serving as my inspiration. A thing called passion turning into a snapped moment of stillness in the frenzy of creation.
