Why Couples Choose Villa Balbiano for Their Lake Como Wedding

There is a particular feeling I get every time I turn through the gates at Villa Balbiano on the shores of Lake Como. Even now, more than eight years after the first time I photographed there, it still feels the same. It is the feeling of arriving somewhere extraordinary without ever feeling overwhelmed. For a venue with such a strong presence, that balance is rare, and it is one of the reasons I believe Villa Balbiano remains one of the most beautiful places for a Lake Como wedding.

Why Villa Balbiano Feels So Special

Over the years, I have photographed weddings across Lake Como, but very few venues create the same feeling as Villa Balbiano. The history is there, the remarkable architecture is there. The gardens stretch down towards the water, while the lake reflects light throughout the day. Yet none of these elements compete with the people celebrating there.

What I love most about Villa Balbiano is its ability to feel both iconic and intimate at the same time. Everything works together naturally, from the elegant interiors and peaceful gardens to the views across the lake, allowing every celebration to feel personal rather than staged. It is a venue where thoughtful design quietly enhances the experience instead of taking attention away from it.

A Place That Changed My Career

My connection with Villa Balbiano goes back more than eight years, when my team and I photographed one of the very first editorials ever created at the villa. At the time, very few photographers had worked there, making the experience feel incredibly special.

It was a bridal editorial created alongside people who are still an important part of my life today. Looking back, it feels like the beginning of a chapter in my career that I never could have predicted. Every time I return to Villa Balbiano, I think about that first day and how much it shaped the work I do now.

The Best Light at Villa Balbiano

If someone asked me about the best photography locations at Villa Balbiano, I could easily list the loggia, the gardens, the lakefront terrace, or the beautiful spaces overlooking the water. But what matters even more than the location itself is the timing.

Late afternoon brings a softness to Lake Como that is difficult to describe until you see it for yourself. The light moves gently through the gardens before reflecting across the lake, creating portraits that feel calm, natural, and full of atmosphere. Whenever I photograph a Lake Como wedding, this is always the part of the day I look forward to most.

Every wedding at Villa Balbiano brings something different, and that's one of the reasons I love returning. You can browse more of my portfolio to see how I document weddings in a natural, timeless way across Lake Como and beyond.

A Creative Collaboration I'll Always Remember

One project that will always stay with me was a pre-wedding shoot I photographed with a wonderful couple from Thailand. It became much more than a photo session.

I helped plan the experience while the bride carefully styled every detail herself, creating five different looks throughout the day. Together we built something that felt incredibly personal, moving effortlessly between romantic and editorial moments. It never felt like work. It felt like a genuine creative collaboration, and the photographs we created together still feel just as timeless today.

Villa Balbiano Through My Eyes

After more than eight years of photographing at Villa Balbiano, I still find something new every time I visit. A different corner of the gardens catches the light. A new perspective opens across the lake. No two celebrations ever feel the same, even though the setting remains beautifully familiar.

That is what keeps bringing me back. Villa Balbiano never asks to be the centre of attention. Instead, it creates the perfect backdrop for moments that feel genuine, emotional, and completely personal.

Every wedding at Villa Balbiano tells a different story, and I'd love to help tell yours. If you're planning your Lake Como wedding, get in touch here to enquire about your wedding photography. I can't wait to hear what you have planned.
